Training Services
At VelQuest Customer Education Center, we are committed to providing you with the knowledge and competencies that assure your success with VelQuest's products and their application within your laboratory. We believe in practical, effective targeted training and maintain a strong commitment to providing comprehensive, integrated courses covering all aspects of operation from beginning to advanced levels.
All customer education courses are scheduled quarterly and students should contact VelQuest for availability or email the training group at training@velquest.com. Several key course are outlined below:
SmartLab System Operator Training
This practical first-step course introduces new users to VelQuest’s SmartLab software, with primary focus on the Procedure Execution module including data review and data reporting.
This training course is designed to prepare SmartLab users for performing their day to day activities in the SmartLab environment. Topics covered include:
- Creating Procedure Session
- Routine data entry
- Non-routine data entry (data recollection, audit trail and annotations).
- Capturing data from network connected instruments
- Referencing and collecting electronic data from other procedure sessions (eg. Solution expirations)
- Data review
- Procedure session lifecycle (progressing a sample/lot through SmartLab)
SmartLab System Administrator Training
This advanced level two day course provides detailed skills for and knowledge necessary to be a successful system administrator for the SmartLab system. Generally, participants are lab or IT personnel responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance and administration of the SmartLab system. Students explore the use of Security Manager to control user eligibilities, Procedure Manager to maintain procedure revisions and Instrument Manager to manage instrument integration interfaces. Other key system modules include Report Manager, Session Manager and Data Exchange. Critical topics that are discussed include facility and IT requirements, installation of software and system options. There is a minimal focus on Procedure Execution.
Method Conversion Training
This advanced level two day course provides an overview of the commands, tools and techniques necessary to edit and create a SmartLab method using existing paper-based laboratory methods and standard operating procedures. Use of the SmartLab MethodBuilder will be highlighted. Students will have the opportunity to practice their new skills through the hands-on exercises which provide a step-by-step approach to creating a complete SmartLab method during the course. Experience with the SmartLab Procedure Execution is required.
Instrument Integration
This two day course provides experienced SmartLab users with the information and skills necessary to interface various types of laboratory instruments for direct and compliant data capture within the SmartLab system. Interface techniques are detailed for networked (PC-based), RS-232, VQ-spooler instruments and non-connected devices. For each type of instrument, students will learn to extablish serial communication, create instrument definitions within the SmartLab library database, determine appropriate parsing techniques and register instruments for use. In addition, advanced integration strategies with other IT systems including ERP, LIMS and CDS systems will be discussed.
Train-the-Trainer Certification
This highly interactive one and a half day course provides information on how to present SmartLab System Operator training to end-users at your facility. It describes how to use the Operator Training Facilitator’s Kit to assure that your students receive the highest benefit from the training and allows the opportunity for you to test your instruction techniques within a mock-training session.
Each trainer completing the course will receive an Operator Training Facilitator’s Kit providing materials needed to train your users at your facility. The kit includes a CD with the facilitator guide and templates, class materials, course lecture with notes, student evaluation tools, student manuals, license to purchase additional materials for a class of ten students.
