Over the last 13 years at AstraZeneca, Steve has held roles within the Quality Assurance/Quality Control organization within AstraZeneca before moving into Global Operations.  In his role as a business analyst, Steve has overseen multiple system implementations in support fo Quality testing throughout AstraZeneca Europe. Steve is the project leader for AstraZeneca in the collaborative effort between AstraZeneca and VelQuest for the SmartLab EM project.

John P. Helfrich is Vice President, GMP Automation Programs at VelQuest Corporation. John is responsible for monitoring compliance and operational excellence trends in life science industries and impact of VelQuest automation programs to best meet industry needs.

Mr. Helfrich has over 30 years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry as a research analytical chemist and divisional management of several high technology companies that service the life sciences industry including NuGenesis Technologies, Precision Detectors, Waters Corporation, and Zymark Corporation. He began his career as an analytical chemist in the pre-clinical research division of the Rohm and Haas Company. He has a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry and has authored 28 analytical chemistry and bio-characterization publications.
